Now, there has been a lot of problems over this I'm gonna tell you what to do with some handy screenshots.
It gets really annoying when you loose pressure sensitivity and you're in the middle of drawing and that is because sometimes SAI can lose you're settings, after you have been told to remove all preferences and that, you, like me, may get no response from your pen but only when you press hard on it. I have found a great solution.
This might not work for all users, because of the type of laptop and the type of tablet because it has no sensitivity installed on it at all., but I hope that this will work for you.
Note: Before we go on I forgot to say that you need a tablet, Wacom preferably and you also have to have purchased SAI.
Without Pressure...:

So, thats what it looks like. yours might be different though, but the next steps will help. Go to Others - Options - DigitalSupport
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Your settings should be at 0%, if it is at 100% then that is why you have to press so hard, if it is other than 0% then set it to that.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Before you fiddle about with SAI, you still mustn't, for smoother lines go to Advanced settings and change your Quality to 4 (smoothest)
Size and Dens ticked. Come out of sai (if in the middle of project save as a .sai)
Close then re open SAI and feel free to draw!
Any questions ask and I'd love to know that I've helped you ^^

This will also work with trials, there are no more possible ways to download SAI so you must buy it ^_=

You need to set it to 100 and save it then go back and set it to 0 again. Works for me.

hope this helps anyone who is searching for this same issue!

1º) Install a Windows partition on your mac
I have used Boot camp for it: Boot Camp is a multi boot utility included with Apple OS X that assists users in installing Microsoft Windows operating systems on MAC. Other alternatives to have Windows running on Mac are Virtual Box, Parallels Desktop, etc.

*By default, your mac will run OS X. If you want to choose the Windows partition, press and keep pressed ALT while your MAC is starting.

2º) Run Windows and install your tablet drivers without your tablet plugged. If you have the original CD of your tablet's drivers, use it, if not, go to their official website and download the most updated ones. Follow the driver's intructions to install it and plug your tablet.

3º) If you get Paint tool Sai now and open it, you will notice your pen pressure might still doesn't work, don't panic and install: .net framework: Net framework was created by Microsoft for building, deploying, and running applications and services that use .NET technologies, such as desktop applications and Web services. (My net framework is 4.5. That’s what most people was missing!)

4º) Restart your Mac to be sure everything is working correctly and open the Windows Paint tool sai. Should be working, or at least did for me.

This was tested on iMac mavericks +  a Wacom intuos pen & touch + a partition of Windows 7. Good luck!

For some reason, SAI Pen Pressure won't work when I open .SAI documents. ;-;
Neither will Smoothing, yet, everything works fine with normal documents (such as PNG or JPEG).
Any help? It's really annoying.

Problem solved in like five minutes:
Save the .SAI file as a .PNG instead, DO NOT open it, but, the canvas that was saved as a .PNG should automatically change. c:

Changing the number to 100 actually did the opposite of helping for me. It made it so that I had to press super hard for it to register a 'click'. I exited out of SAI, and when I reopened it I changed the number back to 0. Exited, reopened. It fixed the pressure sensitivity and the 'click' pressure registration.

From the instructions:
*Your settings should be at 0%, if it is at 100% then that is why you have to press so hard*
The picture showing it at 100% makes it a little confusing at first glance though ;)

Silly me! I was in a rush and didn't really read through it all. Either way, my settings were default set to 0%. Changing it to 100 and then back to 0 fixed my problem. (:

I'm not sure if you have solved your problems yet but you sure that you installed the driver for your tablet? If not, get it. Then open SAI, click any tool (brush, pen, ect), go to the tool's advanced settings, look for something called "Press:" and check off "Size", then go out of advanced settings and set "Min Size" to 0% and test out your pressure.

It probably doesn't work. Touch screen laptops/computers don't have pressure sensitivity. Just buy a small drawing tablet with pen pressure sensitivity if you really want pen pressure.

I found out the problem I was having. This didn't work for me, so I just started playing with the brush settings.
Under "Size" options there is a "Min size" option. Pull that to 0 %, I had mine at 70 % so that fixed it for me.

NOTICE: FOR THOSE THIS IS NOT WORKING FOR, THE PROBLEM MAY JUST BE WITH YOUR TABLET, THIS POST WAS WRITTEN A YEAR AGO AND THINGS MAY HAVE CHANGED, TABLETS MAY HAVE UPDATES (SUCH AS NEW BAMBOO DOCKS) SO PLEASE AT LEAST TRY THIS AND TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION IT WON'T ALWAYS WORK FOR SOME.

I've had Sai for quite a while, and it has always been at 0 for me.

The issue is, despite that, my new tablet dislikes Sai. nothing works.

any Tips?

thanks.

It may just be the tablet, it might be faulty, does it work in other programs that require pen pressure?

I am having the same problem. I just got a new Wacom tablet (Intuos Pro small) and no matter what I do, the lines come out thick. I already installed the Wacom driver and tried the tablet in Photoshop. No problem at all there. The pressure works fine in PS but for some reason it won't work at all in SAI even though I bought it and followed all of the steps. Please help me.

once you set the pressure to 100, try going back after trying to draw on 100, and change it back to 0. That's how I got mine back :)

I don't know if it's because my driver is out of date, that's why i cant install it.
but the sensitivity is working pretty well on other programs, except sai
